About Lisa Farber Miller, Principal and Founder
Philanthropy maven
Trusted advisor and coach
Relationship-driven change agent
Lisa Farber Miller founded Philanthropy Partners Consulting in 2019. Her consulting practice is focused on strategy and advising mission-driven organizations and foundations (family, corporate, giving circles) and coaching their boards and executives, helping them achieve the impact they seek. Lisa held senior positions at many diverse nonprofit and philanthropy organizations—from foundations to museums to public radio to community centers.
Lisa has decades of experience in philanthropic strategy and funder collaboration, and is knowledgeable in all aspects of grantmaking, including research, priority-setting, decision-making, due diligence, policies, procedures, reporting, evaluation, and board governance.
Until 2019, Lisa was senior program officer at Rose Community Foundation where she first served as a consultant to create the strategic plan that guided the Foundation’s Jewish Life program area. Subsequently, she joined the senior staff in 1996 and stewarded over $58M in grants and designed and led many multi-million dollar local and national funder initiatives and collaborations to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of nonprofits working for the social good.
An expert in facilitating giving circles, Lisa has helped hundreds of teenagers and adults learn about and use strategic philanthropy to be effective grantmakers. Lisa created and co-led one of the first Jewish teen foundations in the country, Rose Youth Foundation, and also created and facilitated Roots & Branches Foundation, which engages adults ages 25 to 40 in giving together.
Having created and led many creative multi-million dollar initiatives—such as The Endowment Challenge and BUILDing Jewish ECE—to build nonprofit capacity and community strength, she is a proven innovator who can implement.
Outside of work, Lisa is a foodie and sourdough rye baker who loves creating community by cooking together. She is devoted to family and celebrations and is fun-loving Mimi to her four grandchildren. A devotée of walk-and-talk meetings, she is a hiker, skier, and lover of the outdoors and exercise. The daughter of a librarian, Lisa is a life-long learner, voracious reader, and adventurous traveler. Ask her about the time she was charged by a cape buffalo while on a walking safari in Kenya!
“Lisa has always been an example of what a true leader is. She is someone who is open to new ideas, isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo, and does so while ensuring that others are growing, learning, and becoming their best selves.”
